- Enter the current, allowed temperature rise and copper thickness (oz), then choose external or internal layer.
- Automatically calculates copper cross-section area and minimum width in mil and mm, with a quick lookup table from 0,5 to 10 A.
- Example: 1 A, 10 °C rise, 1 oz copper, external layer needs a trace of about 0,30 mm.
IPC-2221 is an approximation. For multilayer boards, high currents or hot environments, also check against IPC-2152 and leave a safety margin.
